Bill Wilson Interview

Abstract

Bill Wilson was born in Lac la Biche in 1934, and raised in Calgary. In his interview, Wilson talks shortly about his parents, childhood, and upbringing; how the RCMP mistreats Indigenous peoples and some examples of violence Wilson had witnessed; the Catholic School system and racism perpetrated by teachers and white students; his knowledge on Indigenous medicine, and the shortcomings of Western medicine to address spiritual needs; Language; becoming involved with his local friendship centre and the process into attending University; his political education, opinions on welfare and how the state purposefully withholds wealth from Indigenous people to maintain political power; and how assimilation is used to remove/hinder cultural identity and development.
