Implications
The lands provided as reserves for Indigenous groups were not always appropriate, and the unsuitability of certain lands for farming and other economic pursuits could make it difficult for Indigenous people to become prosperous and provide for their band members. Under treaty, it stipulated that Aboriginal peoples were to choose their reserve lands, but that was rarely fully honoured as the government would often select reserve land that was unideal for development. Because of this, agriculture proved difficult - similar to what those part of the Cumberland band experienced.
