Caroline Vandale Interview

Abstract

Caroline Vandale was born in 1902 in Carlton Saskatchewan. In her interviews Vandale recounts some memories about her grandparents; the resistance and the stories her grandfather shared with her; the depression, digging for senega roots, and how the depression directly affected Metis people; the First and Second World Wars (how the military tricked her brother into conscription, his desertion once he realized he was tricked, and his subsequent death), and how she sees the RCMP, teachers and students, the Church, Social Welfare Department, and the ways employers engage with Metis people (often unfairly).
